Sir Thomas Read. High Sheriff of Berkshire in the reign of Queen Elizabeth and Lord of the Manors of Barton Court and Beedon, County Berks, and of Ipsden and Dunsten, County Oxon, ninth in descent from Edward Read. Lord of the Manor of Beedon, and High Sheriff of Berkshire, 1439, married Mary.
Richard Read (son of Sir Thomas). Born at Barton Court, Berks. Baptized at St. Helens, Abingdon, Aug. 16, 1579. Married Mary, daughter of Sir Alexander Cave. Died at Dunsten Manor in 1659.
Sir Charles Read (son of Richard). Born at Dunsten, Oxon. Baptized at Dunsten April 22, 1622, married Katherine. Buried at St. Bridget’s, Fleet Street. April 6, 1674.
Henry Read (son of Sir Charles). Born in London. Baptized at St. Bridget’s, June 11, 1662. Married Mary.
Colonel John Read (son of Henry). Born at Dublin, Jan. 15, 1688. Emigrated to America/ Lived in Cecil County Maryland (probably near Charlestown). Married Mary Howell born in Wales, 1711. Died at New Castle, Delaware, June 16, 1756. His wife Mary died Sept. 22, 1784.
George Read (eldest son of Colonel John Read). Born Sept. 18, 1733. Married Gertrude Ross (died 1802; this was her 2nd husband), daughter of Rev. George Ross of New Castle. He died Sept. 21, 1798. He was a:

- Member of Convention which formed Constitution of the United States
- Judge Admiralty Court
- Third President of Delaware. Served: October 20, 1777 to March 31, 1778
